Salvatore Freda and Volta are already household names in their native Switzerland, but are about to become big news in he UK.
Salvatore started DJing at the age of 14, and within a few years released his first EP - The Fredator EP on Chic records, whichincluded the track Nightclubbing Heroes, playlisted by Carl Craig & Eric Morillo. In 2000 he became resident at the techno club Loft, hosting events beside artists such as Kevin Sanderson and Dave Clark in his 3 year residency.
2002 saw the birth of Adrenogroov, Salvatore’s own label which brought out 13 releases with internationally acclaimed artists such as Fabric Lig & Jean Vanesse, Vince Watson, Deetron, and David Duriez among others.
In 2003, a new club, called Le Cercle, invited Salv to start his own party label. He was finally able to share and communicate his own personal sound, and Le Cercle des Freaks Disparus (The Dead Freaks Society) was born.
In 2004, When the D! Club suggested that Salv do his own label party there, the famous Freaks on Friday came to be, inviting artists such as Steve Bug, Tiefschwarz, Ellen Allien, M.A.N.D.Y and more to spin.
Salvatore loves collaborating both in business (he co-founded the Mental Groove Record Shop in 2005) and in the studio. He finds working with friends stimulating and motivating and the result can be heard on some of today’s most important labels. He has teamed up with artists such as Massimo Stefanelli, Michel Cleis, and here for Freerange with Volta - releasing the furious percussion excursion that is Western Spaghetti.
Volta (Raphaël Parisod) has DJing and producing for more than 12 years. After getting his first taste of playing in Ibiza with Jaime and Alfredo at only 16, he exploded on the Swiss scene, playing house and techno alongside great artists such as Carl Craig, Jeff Mills, Kevin Saunderson and DJ Sneak. Today there is no local club, festival or event that hasn't called on him to ensure a packed and ecstatic dancefloor. His sets easily switch from techno to electro to house, incorporating scratch techniques and flirting with tribal, groovy and relentless beats.
In July 2003 Volta opened the VR Records shop in Lausanne and founded R-Productions, an event agency which organizes big electronic events in Switzerland, bringing then unknown artists such as Agnés and Lee Van Dowski to huge clubs such as the MAD in Lausanne. The end of 2003 saw the opening of his DJ school, set up with the aim to inspire a whole new generation of music lovers.
In 2006 Volta and Alexandre created the group Bu and signed their first remix of Jesse Somfay’s Jewelsweet Groove on the Audio Invader label. The hypnotic sounds and pumping rhymes that the track emits were play listed by artists such as Troy Pierce and Gregor Tresher. Today he has turned towards producing his own sound and collaborates with the Swiss artist Salvatore Freda, releasing on Liebe Detail, Music Man, Remote Area and of course Freerange Records.
